Fano is a town in the province of Pesaro and Urbino in the Italian region of Marche. Roman settlement, it retains evidence of the time of Emperor Augustus: first the Arch of Augustus in fact a gateway into the town along the ancient Via Flaminia door.
Then the walls with towers surrounding a large portion of downtown. In the Middle Ages, Fano was the stronghold of the Malatesta family, lords of Rimini. They have left significant traces in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, as Malatesta Palace, which houses a museum and an art gallery, the fortress, also known as the Rocca Malatesta, and the tombs of the noble family, under the arcade of the church of St. Francis.

On display in the historic center of the city are also the Podestà Palace, inside which there is the Theatre of Fortuna, and the Romanesque Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption.
Fano is famous for its carnival, probably the oldest in Italy. Furthermore, in the city take place several festivals, including the largest, in October, is the Fano International Film Festival, where works of independent short and medium length films.
