Palermo is located in the west of Sicily, on the north coast, lying along the Mediterranean Sea. The city is widely deployed on the Conca d'Oro, "gold shell" plain known for its fertile land. A small river, the Orerto crosses Palermo in its southern part. Overlooking the plain, several peaks surrounding the city, such as the Monte Pellegrino north, which rises to 606 meters above sea level. Three nature reserves are located near the city, including that of Monte Pellegrino adjacent to the north of the city, and the north of Capo Galloau Mondello.
Palermo is a center of culture with several museums contribute to radiation.

  • The palace Abatellis (fifteenth century) houses the Regional Gallery of Sicily. On the ground floor: wood carvings, Arab vases, sculptures Gagni fresco of the fifteenth century: The Triumph of Death. On 1st floor: Sicilian painting of the twelfth to the sixteenth century works of Antonello da Messina which The Annunciation Hall cross with two gothic crucifix.

Events and festivities

 

  • Festino:from July 11 to 15, celebrations in honor of St. Rosalia, the patron saint of the city. On July 15, a grand procession was organized, followed by a fireworks display. The party continues on September 3, during a night procession with torches on Monte Pellegrino. 
  • Day of the Dead: 2nd November, children receive gifts from the dead. We eat "pasta dei morti "tough cookie covered in white sugar. 

The neighborhoods Champagneria, I Candelai, La Kalsa, Vucciria, Il Borgo Vecchio, and Zona di Viale della Libertà are known for their lively by cafes, restaurants, clubs in various music nightlife.
 
Markets


Palermo is known for its many markets with a unique atmosphere. The variety of stalls, exotic decor, is a real attraction touristique7. The four main sites are Ballaro market, the market Vucciria (the French "butcher"), the market Capo and the Borgo Vecchio market.
