En savoir plus...
The southern Atlantic coast of Portugal (including the Algarve) is over its entire length (about 160 km), the main area of beach holiday in the country. From west to east, from Cape Sao Vicente Castro Marim through Albufeira, this strip of land a few hundred kilometers larger than its width, has a mild climate all year round. Occupied for five centuries by the Arabs, it retains this particular period architecture, whitewashed houses, fireplaces openwork tiles (these ceramic tiles to blue or yellow cast). Since 1965 and the opening of the Faro International Airport, tourism became the main activity of the region.
In summer, the Atlantic receives visitors in water that remains cool enough, however warmer east and west (it is 21-23 °C towards Lagos, 22-24 °C beyond Vilamoura). The beaches are mostly large areas where the wind is scarce and water in a nice green color. They are lined with ocher cliffs west disappearing around Vilamoura.

Activities / Excursions:
On the beaches, enjoy the crystal clear water as well as yacht clubs that offer non-motorized traditional activities (windsurfing, pedal boats, sailing ...). Also, if the Algarve is not a destination for divers, it is however a chosen land where golf twenty-four grounds are installed and recognized by the pros.
You can also visit: Fort Sagres and Cape St. Vincent (extreme tip of the country); the Matriz church of Sao Lourenco in Almancil (lined with sumptuous tile eighteenth century); Palace Estoi and gardens; Natural Park of Ria Formosa lagoon popular with large birds, east of the Algarve. And all the villages in the interior, away from the busy seaside. Do not overlook the charming town of Tavira, Olhao or Lagos.
