The Var is a French department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. This is the only French department named after an element that is not in its territory.
The main source of income is tourism. The Var is also involved for several years in a new way, the cultivated land is devoted exclusively to the following products: flowers, fruits, potatoes and wine. It develops the other investments in renewable energy, particularly in photovoltaics as the pilot site Cotignac. The department has two economic centers. The first is located in the region of Toulon, where a large competitive industry. The other economic center is Fréjus-Saint-Raphaël, specializing in services (real estate, finance, managements fortunes ...) and high technology (including the headquarters of French helmet manufacturer GPA).

Visits:
Var (like most of the departments of the Mediterranean coast) is a major tourist destination. In particular it can be visit the wineries and vineyards of Bandol, see the perched villages of Fayence (Montauroux, Fayence, Callian, Seillans, Tourettes, Saint-Paul-en-Forêt, Mons, Tanneron), hiking in the Esterel of windsurfing on the Giens, or take a boat to the island of Porquerolles or underwater natural park on the island of Port-Cros.
The Cavalaire-sur-Mer beach is the longest sandy beach on the coast. The city of Saint-Tropez is located in the Var. Do not forget the north of the department: the Haut-Var and hilltop villages in the hills with the majestic sites of the Gorges du Verdon and Lake St. Croix, or the south-east to Lake St. Cassian.
