Taranto was founded in the eighth century av.J.C. by Greek colonists who settled on a strip of land bordered by the "Little Sea" constituting the current old town, Città Vecchia. It is connected by an artificial to the "Great Sea" channel and the new town with a swing bridge.
At this place is the Aragonese Castle, dating from the tenth century but renovated in the fifteenth century. Not far away, in Piazza Castello, one peutencore admire the remains of the Greek Temple of Poseidon.

Taking the Duomo street, we arrive at the San Cataldo Cathedral built by the Byzantines (tenth century). The new city is home to the National Archaeological Museum, which displays everything for the Greek era. Finally, along the coast, you can swim in crystal clear water while admiring the variety of landscapes.
